Fun Entertainment Line-Up at ADL Walk Against Hate; April 29 Event Promotes Diversity and Inclusion
Attendees at the ADL Walk Against Hate community walk will be treated to a variety of entertainment that will make them dance, sway, clap, cheer and create their own music as they celebrate diversity and inclusion in Southern Nevada. The line-up features the Community Productions interactive rhythm circle, Culture Shock hip-hop and urban dance group, Desert Oasis High School Drumline and DJ Chyld.
Presented by Barrick Gold, the second annual walk and companion activities will be 9 a.m. to noon, Sunday, April 29 at Springs Preserve, 333. S. Valley View Blvd. The Anti-Defamation League is organizing the family-oriented, multi-cultural event that also includes appearances by local officials, Channel 13’s Tricia Kean as emcee and community leaders; booths; and presentations to about 20 local schools for achieving their ADL No Place for Hate designations.
Community Productions is a music enrichment group that promotes the collective consciousness through art, music and outreach, and will bring a variety of percussion instruments for event attendees to use. The group has been featured at the Life is Beautiful Festival, Vegoose, Fremont Street, First Friday, parades, New Year’s Eve celebrations on the Las Vegas Strip and other venues.
“We hope Walk Against Hate attendees will participate in our rhythm circle which serves to bring people together as does this event’s message of inclusiveness,” said Jeffrey Trower, Community Productions founder.
Culture Shock Las Vegas is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of children and youth through hip hop and urban dance events, high quality performances, and year-round dance troupes for communities in Southern Nevada.
The Desert Oasis High School Drumline is a highly regarded at national competitions, including those by the American Drum Line Association and Winter Guard International, holding the highest WGI score in the country for two weeks in 2016. Additionally the group finished this year’s season in second place in its Scholastic A division. Between 15 and 30 DOHS Drumline members will be at the Walk Against Hate.
Michelle “Chyld” Lecker is a Philippines born-Vegas raised female DJ. Known as DJ Chyld, her versatile sound and unique fashion-fun style have earned her residencies at the popular downtown lounge, The Roof, atop of Inspire Theatre and other venues. She has opened for famed DJ Franzen and R&B recording sensation Lloyd.
The Walk Against Hate will weave through the northwest section of Springs Preserve through various desert habitats and Boomtown 1905, a re-created historical streetscape that tells the story of Las Vegas from 1905 to 1920. Following the walk, attendees are invited to explore other areas and exhibits in Springs Preserve.
Event proceeds support ADL’s award-winning A World of Difference Institute anti-bias and anti-bullying programs for students, teachers, administrators and parents throughout Nevada and the ADL No Place for Hateinitiative in K-12 schools.

Registration begins at 8:45 a.m.; and the program starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Walk Against Hate and ADL No Place for Hate banner ceremony. There will be performances before and after the walk.
The cost of the event includes a special ADL Walk Against Hate T-shirt, and is $20 per adult and $10 per school-age child. Parking is free. Additionally there are various team, participation and sponsorship opportunities.
