Galleria at Sunset Prepares Students, Teachers and Parents for Back-to-School
School kicks-off on Monday, Aug. 13 and Galleria at Sunset is preparing the community’s students, teachers and parents with everything they need to be set up for success this school year.
FILL THE BUS: BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE
On Friday, July 27, Galleria at Sunset will host the annual Fill the Bus school supply drive from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Entrance 1 Parking Lot and Center Court. The supply drive will benefit Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada, the local affiliate of the nation’s leading dropout prevention program helping to eliminate barriers for Nevada’s at-risk students.
Items needed for the 2018-2019 school year include: Back packs; mechanical pencils and highlighters; pens (blue and black ink); markers, crayons and colored pencils; glue sticks; index cards, pocket folders and dividers; erasers, pencil sharpeners and pencil cases; athletic shoes (of all sizes); new socks and underwear; alarm cocks; wide ruled or college ruled paper; hygiene kits and products (toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrushes, deodorant and hand sanitizer); school uniforms (khaki or navy shorts and pants and uniform shirts in red, white and navy).
CIS Southern Nevada places full-time employees in the schools they serve, to assess student’s needs and identify barriers they face to graduation. Statewide CIS of Nevada serves 67,461 students in 63 schools.
SUPPLY A TEACHER
The second annual Supply A Teacher event, presented by Port of Subs and Live to Give, is on Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Galleria. The event will be located in the Center Court outside of Charlotte Russe and Build-A-Bear. Teachers are encouraged to bring valid school ID and/or credentials to receive their free school supply kit, while supplies last. This event is the culmination of a summer-long school supply fundraiser, which aims to give local teachers enough school supplies to last through the entire year.
The event will be home to a teacher appreciation lounge with free massages and giveaways. One lucky attending teacher will also win a shopping spree from Michael’s Craft Stores.
EXTRA CREDIT SHOPPING PROMOTION
Guests who spend $150 or more at participating retailers can earn one $20 gift card per person, July 30 through August 5, while supplies last. See Guest Services for full details and a list of participating stores.
BACKPACKS 4 CLASS ACTS
In partnership with 98.5 KLUC, Galleria at Sunset will host Backpacks 4 Class Acts Finale Party on Saturday, August 4 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Center Court. Community members are encouraged to drop off backpacks filled with school supplies, to benefit Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. The event will be complete with kid-friendly activities, music, vendor booths and prizes.
Clark County is the fifth largest school district in the country and home to more than 300,000 students. Hidden in that number are countless young people in need – 51,200 are classified as English-language learners, more than 62 percent are enrolled in free or reduced-price meal programs and nearly 8,000 are homeless.
COX BACK-TO-SCHOOL FAIR
On Saturday, August 11, Galleria will host the Cox Back to School Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with over 30 vendor booths located throughout the shopping center. Now in its 11th consecutive year, the Cox Back-to-School Fair is the longest-running, most visible school-readiness event in Southern Nevada complete with a host of divisions from the Clark County School District and multiple educational, health and family-serving community agencies, organizations and sponsors.
FUNSET KIDS CLUB
On Saturday, August 18, Galleria will host a back-to-school themed Kids Club for those children 0-5 years of age. Happening from 10 to 11 a.m. in the lower level Kohl’s, the free event will celebrate the back-to-school month with special guests, kid-friendly and educational activities, arts and crafts, giveaways and live entertainment.
