Getting Married in Las Vegas
Vegas is a really popular destination for those looking for a different wedding. Whether you elope and tell no one or make a holiday of it so your family and friends can be part of the big day, there is something exciting and magical about saying ‘I do’ in this fantastic location.
In order to get married in most places, and Vegas is no exception, you will need a marriage license. This is a two-step process, the first of which can be done remotely, so while you are still at home. Don’t apply any sooner than 90 days before the day you want to get pick up the license (that’s about three months). You will need to fill out the pre-license application form, and it is important to remember to accurately input your names and personal information exactly as it appears on your passport and other legal documentation. The ID documentation will be needed when you collection your licence so passports are a great idea as you will need these for travel in most cases anyway.
The second part, the collection of the license must be done in person, and both of you must be present. This takes place at the marriage license bureau, and at the same time, you will be paying the fee which is currently $77. Once you have collected the license for which you do not have a waiting period or blood testing, it is valid for 12 months. Therefore your wedding must take place within a year, and you must both be 18. If you are 16 or 17, it is possible with parental consent in writing which must be notarised. The same rules apply as in most places; you cannot already be married or be a near relative.
Once you have sorted the legal paperwork, you will find that there is a myriad of venues to choose from, depending on what you want to do. Some places just offer a chapel, whereas others include hotel rooms, limo transfers and reception venues. There will need to be witnesses, and these can either be members of your party or supplied by the venue. All styles of wedding are catered for, so if you want a huge white wedding with a big crowd this can be arranged, or if you just want to pop in, wearing jeans and t-shirts with no one at all to support you, go for it.
