Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada Announces Dessert Before Dinner's Signature Cocktail, "Less Is S’More"
Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada
has unveiled this year’s signature cocktail to be served during the 2017 Dessert Before Dinner Gala. Created by Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of Nevada, “Less is S’more” will be paired with this year’s collection of showcased desserts at the city’s only event where guests feast on sweet confections before they dine (Pictured: Francesco Lafranconi with “Less is S’more” cocktail)

Dessert Before Dinner will take place Saturday, Sept. 9, at Caesars Palace starting at 6 p.m. More than 700 of the city’s top influencers and community leaders are expected to attend.

Established as one of the city’s most exciting fundraising events, the gala will bring and all-female lineup of Southern
Nevada chefs together to create the ultimate dessert incorporating the beloved flavors of this year’s signature cookie, the Girl Scout S’mores. Guests will indulge in the chefs’ imaginative S’mores-inspired desserts before the first course is even served, then cast votes for their favorite sweet concoction. At the end of the evening, the top three winning chefs are announced and presented with medals.

Francesco Lafranconi, executive director of mixology and spirits education, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of Nevada, describes the drink as “very indulgent” and adds, “the drink promotes sweet baking spices notes with a delicious, sumptuous finish.”

“Less is S’more” recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum
  • 1 oz. Om Spirits Organic Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt Liqueur
  • 1 scoop of Marshmallow Cacao Sorbet by DolceVita, which is also produced in Las Vegas

Method: Stir the liquors together over ice, then strain into a cocktail coupe previously rimmed with torched marshmallow. Serve with a scoop of cacao sorbet. Garnish with another torched marshmallow, a drizzle of caramel chocolate sauce and graham cracker.

Lafranconi is a national ambassador and founding member of the U.S. Bartenders Guild Accreditation Program, as well as a member of the Museum of the American Cocktail. He holds certificates and appointments in the field and has received worldwide recognition for his mixology skills. Lafranconi founded The Academy of Spirits and Fine Service in 2000 and was recently awarded “Best in Show” at the Iron Mixologist competition.

In addition to the chefs’ competition, an array of the city’s most high-profile women will be honored for being outstanding role models, while paving the way for success for future female leaders in Southern Nevada. They will also receive honorary badges, selected specifically for them based on their own professional and philanthropic achievements. Click here for the full list of honorees.

Gala proceeds will continue to lay the foundation for all girls in Southern Nevada to become tomorrow’s female leaders. In addition to funding scholarships, proceeds enable the organization to reach girls in all demographics and areas of the community as well as expanding upon current programming such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM), social values and financial literacy. Most importantly, support for Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada helps encourage girls to embrace imaginative and innovative approaches to everything they do—with the goal of creating a better world for all.
