Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada Kickoff Cookie Sales at 15th Annual Cookie Carnival Jan. 22

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada will debut the Thin Mint Sprint 5k & 1 Mile Shortbread Shuffle on January 22, 2011. Online registration opens December 13 at www.girlscoutsnv.org. The timed race begins 9 a.m. and the cost is $25 for the Thin Mint Sprint 5K, and $15 for the 1 Mile Shortbread Shuffle prior to January 5, 2011, then the price increases to $30, $20. Registration after January 20 is $35, $25.

The fun keeps rolling along post race with the 15th Annual Cookie Carnival, a celebration at the Girl Scout Service Center to kick off cookie sales with 2,000 Girl Scouts and family members enjoying entertainment, cookie contests, prizes and much more. Both events are open to the public.

Cookie sales begin January 29, and The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led financial literacy program in the country. As one of four key Girl Scout initiatives, Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy, the program teaches girls goal-setting, decision making, money management, and business ethics.

“The run is a perfect opportunity for the Girl Scout Healthy Living initiative not only to benefit our girls, but the entire community,” said Emily Smith, Chief Marketing and Development Officer. “In one event we are combining two of our important leadership initiatives that help foster courage confidence and character in our girls.”
