Give the Gift of Giving this Holiday Season by Volunteering with United Way’s Volunteer Center

Spreading festive cheer this season, United Way of Southern Nevada’s Volunteer Center offers multiple holiday projects for individuals, organizations and families to join together in the spirit of giving and volunteering.

Sharing their time and talent, volunteers can make someone’s holiday wishes come true. Located on the organization’s web site, United Way’s Volunteer Center offers a variety of reoccurring activities for individuals and families to participate in and help southern Nevadans in need. Activities range from adopting-a-family, wrapping and distributing presents to children and families in southern Nevada and more.

Some of the Volunteer Center’s 2010 holiday volunteer opportunities include:

  • Reindeer Rock offers individuals, groups and families the opportunity to display their creative talents by gift wrapping, sorting and distributing an assortment of presents for children on Sunday, Dec. 12.
  • Season Greeters spread holiday cheer by answering phones and greeting visitors. Volunteers are needed during weekdays from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. now through Tuesday, Dec. 21.
  • Jingle Bells seeks friendly volunteers to ring in the holiday season by being a Red Kettle Bell Ringer at various locations in Clark County. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to assist, as long as children are accompanied by an adult. Volunteers are needed now through Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24.
  • HELP of Southern Nevada seeks individuals, companies, churches, service and fraternal groups to “adopt” a family in need this holiday. Volunteers can donate food, clothing, toys or any other necessary items. In past years, more than 300 families were able to have a brighter holiday season from the generosity of Adopt-A-Family sponsors.

This year’s goal is to serve 375 families in need, which includes families with a single parent with one child or dual parent families with up to 10 children. Now through Thursday, Dec. 9, volunteers can print out the registration form on VolunteerCenterSN.org, contact Abby Quinn at HELP of Southern Nevada at aquinn@helpsonv.org or call 702.836.2130 for more information.
