Henderson Encourages Residents to Participate in Emergency Preparedness Week
As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, the City of Henderson encourages all residents to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies. Disasters can happen anytime and anywhere without notice. Families should prepare an emergency plan and build an emergency supply kit to be self-reliant for a few days without running water, electricity or access to a grocery store.
“Preparedness is a shared responsibility, young and old, and everyone has a role,” said Jeremy Hynds, emergency manager. “By acting now, we can contribute to a quicker recovery and lessen the impact of disasters on our community.”
Even a basic preparedness kit will protect family members in the event of a disaster. Some basic preparedness items include:
- Water (one gallon per day per person)
- Non-perishable food
- Battery or hand-crank powered radio
- Prescription medicines
- First aid kit
- Personal hygiene supplies (toothpaste, soap, contact lens solution)
- Also consider keeping an emergency supply kit at your work, and in your vehicle.
