Henderson Kicks off Holidays With WinterFest

, Henderson’s annual holiday event, offers two days of “North Pole Adventures” to all who attend. The fun begins on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m., with the official tree-lighting ceremony led by Santa and Mayor Debra March on the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St. 

The festival continues until 9 p.m. and includes a variety of family-friendly activities:

  •  JingleFest Gift & Craft Fair
  •  Mail a Letter to Santa
  •  Decorate Cookies in Mrs. Claus’s Bakery
  •  Reindeer Games
  •  Build a Toy in Santa’s Workshop
  •  Gingerbread House Contest
  •  Entertainment and food vendors

The festival is back on Saturday, Dec. 8, from noon until 7 p.m. The WinterFest Evening Light Parade, which starts at 5 p.m. along Water Street, features more than 60 entries reflecting this year’s theme “North Pole Adventures.” Residents, community partners, organizations, and businesses are invited to join in making Henderson’s historic Water Street District twinkle. The city is accepting applications for this year’s parade through Nov. 16.

The city is also accepting entry forms for the gingerbread house contest until Nov. 16. The person with the winning creation will receive $500. The contest is open to ages 6 years and up.

WinterFest is open to all ages. Admission is free; however, some activities may require paid admission.

Ocean Avenue (from Van Wagenen to Haynes) will be closed to through traffic and street parking from noon to 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 with a complete street closure from 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Water Street (from Minor to Victory) will be closed to through traffic and street parking from 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 with a complete street closure from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
