The Local Author Showcase will kick off Henderson Libraries’ Summer Reading Program.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Adult Summer Reading Program is designed for anyone 18 and older to participate in reading for leisure as well as activities like writing workshops, music performances and instructional courses during the summer season. Through reading and participation in the weekly programs, registered participants will be entered in weekly drawings for prizes.

Each of the eight weeks will focus on a different aspect of the arts including writing, music, architecture, crafts, dance, photography, cooking and body art. Programming that coincides with each week’s theme will be offered. Scheduled programs include a writing workshop, music performance, instructional craft program, a visit by a Lego club, an instructional dance program, nature photography display, an instructional cake-decorating class and henna tattoos.

Participation in the program is free and open to the public. After registering online or in person, patrons read books and then complete an online form rating the book on a structured scale. Each submission enters the participant into the weekly drawing, and the entries are carried over to the following weeks until the grand prizes are awarded. Patrons can also complete the online database scavenger hunt or participate in one of the summer program’s events which will also count as a drawing entry.
