“The idea for this project is to see which school can read the most books during Nevada Reading Week,” said Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi, co-owner and director of community projects for Walker Furniture. “This annual competition to promote and encourage reading is rewarding and gratifying for everyone involved.” Sixteen elementary schools participated and collectively read 5,485 books that week.
Walker Furniture decorated the new Reading Corner with bookshelves, chairs, rugs, pillows, etc., while Spread the Word Nevada gave 400 books for reading. Ira J. Earl Elementary School is located at 1463 Marion Drive, Las Vegas.
Equally excited for the students and the new Reading Corner were the school’s librarian Teresa Blake, principal Gina Harvey, vice principal Amanda Lush, and Lisa Habighorst, executive director and co-founder of Spread The Word.
Walker Furniture is proud to be part of the Las Vegas community and loves giving back.
