Join RA Sushi for the 2009 Nicky’s Week Bartender Mix-off Battle to Benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

RA Sushi Bar Restaurant announces the contenders for the 2009 Nicky’s Week Bartender Battle to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In one corner, weighing in at “none of your business,” is nightlife literary wildcat and grand dame of the nightlife world, Xania “The Queen of Clubs” Woodman. In the competing corner, weighing in at “shut your mouth,” is one of Las Vegas’ kings of the LGBT castle, Earl “Entourage” Shelton.

On Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m., the two Vegas VIPs will have to duke it out in a battle of the mixologists in the RA Sushi ring to see who can raise the most money for Nicky’s Week to benefit St. Jude. Woodman and Shelton will have one hour to make as many drinks as possible for the fundraiser. All sales of beverages during the battle hour including tips will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. At the end of the hour, RA judges will deliberate and announce a RA Sushi bartender battle winner. The winner will receive bragging rights and validation for raising money for a great cause.

“I’m honored to be participating in a worthy cause such as Nicky’s Week,” says Woodman. “I will do my very best behind the bar to set the bar for future competitors. Oh, and by the way, you’re going down Shelton!”

“I am honored to be asked to take part in the bartender battle for Nicky’s Week,” says Shelton. “RA Sushi does such a great job raising money every year for St. Jude that I wanted to do my part to help. Xania will be a great competitor and let the best man win.”

The fifth annual Nicky’s Week fundraiser will take place May 24 to 30 and RA Sushi will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of select menu items to the charity. The Nicky’s Week fundraiser was developed in memory of longtime St. Jude patient Nicholas “Nicky” Mailliard, of Scottsdale, who lost a long battle with brain cancer in February 2005 at the young age of 13. A nephew of one of RA’s founders, Nicky held a special place in the hearts of RA associates throughout the organization. RA initiated the fundraiser in honor of Nicky as a way to further promote the exceptional attention and support provided at no cost to families of children receiving care at St. Jude. All donations from the weeklong effort will help pay for St. Jude’s development of treatment and cures for diseases such as brain tumors, leukemia, sickle cell disease, and other life-threatening illnesses in children.
