Las Vegas Polar Plunge Raises More Than $35,000 for Special Olympics Nevada
Hundreds of warm-hearted souls turned out to support Special Olympics Nevada on Saturday for the 2017 Las Vegas Polar Plunge at Sunset Station Hotel & Casino.
Las Vegas Polar Plunge Costumes
The event featured more than 110 Plungers along with a gathering of spectators and raised in excess of $35,000 for Special Olympics Nevada. The proceeds support the organization in providing free year-round sports training and competitions, health services and education programs to 3,500 children and adults with intellectual disabilities across the state.
Las Vegas Polar Plunge Judges
The Las Vegas Polar Plunge included games, contests, a photo booth, food and drinks, a raffle and silent auction, and the dive into the pool – which had been chilled with more than 1,000 pounds of ice. Costumes were plentiful and were judged by special guests including Washoe Sheriff Chuck Allen, Patty Barba of Patty’s Closet, JJ Snyder of KTNV 13 and a group of lively celebrity impersonators. The UNLV marching band also attended for a performance. The Las Vegas Polar Plunge was sponsored by Aerotek, Coca-Cola, Greater Nevada Credit Union, Law Enforcement Torch Run® Nevada and TEKsystems.
Special Olympics Nevada is a free year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Nevada serves more than 3,500 athletes who compete in 28 competitions throughout the state in eight different sports; including more than 2,000 special education student-athletes who participate via the Schools Partnership Program. In addition to offering sports and education, Special Olympics Nevada is committed to improving the health and overall well-being of athletes through a variety of screenings and programs.
