Michael Mack of Max Pawn Offers Tips for Secondhand Shopping During the Holiday Season
The year-end holiday season brings the hunt for perfect gifts — and bargains. Max Pawn, a locally owned pawnshop at 6040 W. Sahara Ave., may have just the deal for you on “preloved” handbags, shoes, jewelry, watches and electronics. All are top-quality items checked for authenticity and sell at below-retail prices.

Mack recently discussed strategies for maximizing holiday gift spending with anchor Nina Porciuncula on KTNV-TV, Channel 13, Las Vegas’ ABC affiliate.
He said buying “preloved” luxury items has become chic as Forbes magazine reported.

Mack said shoppers should ask for a certificate of authentication to ensure the item is legitimate. Also, he said, shoppers should ask about the refund policy; a reputable shop, for example, will have a seven-day return policy.
Trade-in policies also bear examining, Mack said. His shop lets shoppers buy an item, own it for up to six months, then trade it in for 70 percent of the purchase price to use toward another purchase.
Shoppers who avail themselves of Max Pawn’s deals can fulfill their shopping lists and donate to the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, a nonprofit.
Through Dec. 20, Max Pawn will accept new or gently used winter clothing for young people ages 12 to 25 during daily store hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s the third year the shop, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, has participated in the holiday collection drive for the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth through Las Vegas Fashion Council.
Coats, scarves, hats, gloves and blankets are needed most, Mack said.
“The response we’ve seen at Max Pawn has been just tremendous,” Mack told Porciuncula. “We have probably six truckloads of clothing, coats and cold-weather gear for the homeless youth.”
