Miss Asian Las Vegas Promotes “Int’l Literacy Day” with Reading Sessions at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada Sept. 8
Miss Asian Las Vegas partners with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada to promote the importance of reading and comprehension on “International Literacy Day,” Monday, Sept. 8.
A group of Miss Asian Las Vegas Pageant representatives will visit the Lied Clubhouse to read to the kids on this educational holiday. To further the pageant’s mission of creating a more culturally aware community, the girls will showcase children’s books about Asian culture and traditions to the kids.
Among the participants will be Catherine Ho, the reigning Miss Asian Las Vegas, whose passion for volunteering was recognized when she won “Miss Community Service” at the 2014 Miss Asian America Pageant; Elisa Chan, the reigning Miss Chinese Las Vegas; and a number of this year’s Miss Asian Las Vegas Pageant contestants.
“The Miss Asian Las Vegas pageant is definitely a learning experience for our delegates, and one of the things we teach them is the importance of community service and volunteering,” said Owner and Founder Annie Chang. “With kids back in school, it’s the absolute perfect time to reiterate the power of learning and literacy.”
The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) established “International Literacy Day” more than 40 years ago, promoting literacy as a human right and the foundation of learning.
