Three Square Food Bank will offer a full slate of events and activities to commemorate Hunger Action Month in September. Melody Sweets to Support Three Square Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month in September
Fill the Plate, Sept. 1-30
The popular campaign returns this year, as the community works together with local businesses to help fill the “plate,” a 30’ by 30’ graphic in Three Square’s south warehouse, with non-perishable food items. Three Square welcomes shelf-stable donations in-person Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or contributions to the virtual food drive beginning Sept. 1 at threesquare.org/ham. Periodically throughout the campaign, cans and boxes of food will be added to the “plate” to represent cash donations. Individuals, businesses and organizations can also help by snapping a photo for social media using #FillthePlate and help spread the word throughout Hunger Action Month.

Ricardo Laguna Supports Three Square Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month in September
SNAP Experience, Sept. 14-21
Approximately 440,000 Nevadans rely on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, formerly known as Food Stamps. Kicking off on Hunger Action Day (Sept. 14), the SNAP Experience will help participants understand the limitations of SNAP benefits and difficulty of eating nutritiously on a very limited budget. For one week, participants will spend no more than $4 per day on food or $28 per week, declining items that are not available to individuals dependent on SNAP, such as free meals, prepared foods, alcohol and fast food. Executive Volunteer Days, Sept. 19-20
Three Square executives, including President & CEO Brian Burton, COO Larry Scott, CDO Michelle Beck and CFO Tifani Walker, will host a volunteer session and ice cream social at 5 p.m. on Sept. 19 and 9 a.m. on Sept. 20. Volunteers will enjoy a hands-on experience, packing meals or produce that will go to food-insecure individuals and families in Southern Nevada, before indulging in orange creamsicles with the executive team. UNLV Pom Girls Support Three Square Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month in September
KOMP Radiothon
On Friday, Sept. 29, to close out Hunger Action Month and the Fill the Plate campaign, KOMP 92.3 The Rock Station will broadcast live from Three Square from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. The radiothon will feature Three Square staff, donors and volunteers, as well as a few surprise guests.
One in seven Southern Nevadans struggles with hunger - more than 296,000 people in the community are food-insecure, including more than 117,000 children. Throughout the month of September and all year, Three Square seeks to raise awareness for the hunger epidemic, and encourage the Las Vegas community to take action while helping their neighbors who do not always know where their next meal is coming from.
Established in 2007 to provide hunger relief, Three Square Food Bank offers wholesome, nutritious food to nonprofit and faith-based organizations, schools and feeding sites that serve a wide range of Southern Nevadans. Three Square currently provides more than 40 million pounds of food and grocery product the equivalent of more than 33 million meals per year through a network of more than 1,300 community partners.
