NAACP National Voter Fund to Accelerate Southern Nevada Voter Registration Drive on Sept. 30

The NAACP National Voter Fund is hosting a community voter registration drive and rally Sunday, Sept. 30, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the William E. Pearson Community Center, located at 1625 W. Carey Ave., North Las Vegas. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Area church and civic leaders, as well as elected officials, will be on hand Sunday to answer questions about voter registration and the upcoming important presidential election Tuesday, Nov. 6.

“It is crucial that parishioners register to vote in this year’s very important presidential election. The differences between the two candidates have never been more clearer and the stakes never more higher. It’s extremely important that people express their choice for president through their constitutionalright to vote,” said the Rev. Robert Fowler of Victory Missionary Baptist Church. “Area churches must use their community leadership pulpits to get out the vote. Don’t forget, Nevada is a battleground state this election. All eyes of the country will be watching us to see how dedicated we are in selecting our nation’s President. We must step up to the plate and deliver our votes!”

The event also kicks off a countywide “Victory in the Vote!” campaign is targeting more than 40 churches throughout Southern Nevada.

Ministers are being asked to establish voter-registration programs at their churches following Sunday services this weekend. Pastors are encouraged to track allvoters they register, provide a church contact person with phone number andemail so the NAACP can coordinate information and instruct congregations how to register through the Nevada Secretary of State’s website at https://nvsos.gov/votersearch/

“This presidential election is going to be extremely close and literally every registered voter’s vote will count,” said Lonnie Feemster, Nevada State Director for the NAACP National Voter Fund. “The NAACP encourages everyone in the African American community to not only attend this Sunday’s rally, but to show their support for either presidential candidate by registering and casting their vote.”

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 6 with early voting taking place from Oct. 20-Nov. 2. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
