“National Clean Energy Summit 9.0: Integrating Innovation” Invites Nevada University Faculty and Students to Create Clean Energy Films for National Audience
Clean Energy Project and MGM Resorts International invite those who attend or work at any Nevada college or university to enter National Clean Energy Summit 9.0’s (NCES) inaugural video contest for the chance to showcase their creative filmmaking talents to a national audience.

Faculty and students who submit a five-minute video about the evolution of clean energy in Nevada will be entered for the chance to have their video shown during NCES 9.0 on Oct. 13 at Bellagio Las Vegas. Additionally, the top three finalists in each category will receive complimentary entry to the Summit and attend a VIP breakfast prior to the event with a private meet-and-greet with Senator Harry Reid and Governor Brian Sandoval.

“Over the past 10 years, Nevada has solidified its place as a national leader in clean energy, and we’re excited to showcase the tremendous progress we’ve made at this year’s National Clean Energy Summit,” said Karen Wayland, Executive Director of Clean Energy Project. “Though Nevada has made great strides in the clean energy space, it’s imperative that we continue to move forward and think about next steps, which is why we’re inviting those involved in Nevada’s colleges and universities to leave their mark on the clean energy conversation. We’re thrilled to be working with the next generation of clean energy advocates and are excited to see their creativity shine through their submissions.”

Participants must choose from one of two categories on which to base their videos:

  • Nevada Clean Energy Success Stories: These videos should highlight the vibrant clean energy economy in Nevada across a range of technologies at different scales. Videos must include utility-scale and distributed generation projects in Nevada, especially solar, and those that mention energy efficiency, building innovation, or clean energy technologies, other than generation, will receive priority consideration.
  • Nevada Drives Vehicle Innovation: Entrants should focus on Nevada’s efforts to drive the development and deployment of innovative vehicle technology through a variety of approaches, such as electrification of fleets, workplace charging, and autonomous vehicle trials. Videos must include a graphic or map of the proposed Nevada Electric Highway and how it will connect to other states.

Videos will be accepted through midnight on Sept. 22 and will be judged based on originality and creativity, audio and visual production quality, viewer engagement, and how well the storyline showcases Nevada as a national leader in clean energy. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube and include the corresponding link with the contest entry application. Additionally, videos should be no longer than five minutes in length, submitted in a 16×9 HD format as H.264 MOV, MP4, or WMV filetypes and no larger than 300MB in size.

Only videos created and submitted by teams associated with one of Nevada’s colleges or universities will be judged. Teams must include at least one faculty member, employee, or student of the following institutions: College of Southern Nevada; Desert Research Institute; Great Basin College; Nevada State College; Truckee Meadows Community College; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; University of Nevada, Reno; Western Nevada College; Sierra Nevada College; and Western Governors University.
