Nevada Ballet Theatre
(NBT) announces an impressive lineup of artists including  Caesars Palace headliner Matt Goss (above) who will join the company to celebrate its 40 years in Las Vegas and commemorate its debut on the Reynolds Hall stage.

This special performance will be presented on May 5, 2012 at 7 pm at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Ticket prices are $43, $68, $98 and $128 (plus fees) as well as $503, which includes a special gala reception with the artists following the performance. Tickets can be ordered by calling The Smith Center Box Office at (702) 749-2000 or by visiting www.nevadaballet.org.

This debut evening of dance will open with George Balanchine’s classic Serenade, performed by NBT. Premiering in 1934, it is the first ballet Balanchine created in America. Often described as “a milestone in the history of dance,” it is set to Tchaikovsky’s stunning score of “Serenade for Strings” performed by the Las Vegas Philharmonic.

“We are thrilled to take center stage in our new performance home, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, which allows us to incorporate live music, an essential and powerful ingredient of our art form,” said Executive Director & CEO Beth Barbre.

Internationally acclaimed guest artists join this varied program including Principal Dancers Carla Körbes and Seth Orza from Seattle’s Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB). Körbes, named one of “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine, will take the stage with Orza to perform White Swan Pas de deux from the quintessential classic, Swan Lake.

American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Principal Dancer Herman Cornejo will further complement the program. Previously described as “the most technically accomplished male ballet dancer in the United States” by famed dance critic Joan Acocella, Cornejo will perform a solo and a pas de deux.

The evening culminates with a collaboration between NBT and Caesars Palace headliner, the incomparable Matt Goss. Goss and his band will perform live on stage while NBT executes original choreography by Artistic Director James Canfield — set to the music of Goss.

With a sold-out show every weekend for the past two years in The Gossy Room at Caesars Palace, Goss has been proclaimed “The Best New Act in Vegas” by the LA Times. In his incredible career, Goss had sold more than 17 million records and has sold-out shows from Wembley Stadium to the Royal Albert Hall. Goss has recently been seen in commercials for Ciroc Vodka and Caesars Palace.

Building upon a history of collaborations with local and nationally recognized artists – from popular music bands like ‘Pink Martini’ to fashion designers and visual artists such as Dale Chihuly, Canfield embraces the blending of ballet and pop culture. “We want to surprise the audience…give them an unexpected gift from two artistic individuals who recognize the importance of community and collaboration” said Canfield. “We hope to inspire and entertain them with our passions – music, dance, style and class.”

40th Anniversary Gala evening sponsors include Madeleine and Don Andress, Denise and Tim Cashman and Wendy and Richard Plaster; live music sponsored by Doris and Theodore Lee.
