Nevada Cancer Institute’s First “Cancer Conversation” of 2011: How To Talk To Your Doctor

Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) launches the year’s free Cancer Conversations series Thursday, February 10, with essential advice on how to maximize the patient/physician relationship starting with a crucial issue: how you can effectively communicate with your doctor to achieve the best results.

Cancer Conversations are a monthly community forum led by the experts at NVCI to discuss the health topics of greatest interest to cancer patients, survivors and their families. Organized as an informal conversation with a Q&A session following, the meetings allow attendees to get their questions answered directly from specialists, rather than consulting the overwhelming, confusing and often inaccurate information that can be found online.

Presented by NVCI Director and CEO Dr. John C. Ruckdeschel, this Cancer Conversation will provide patients and their families with a guide to establishing great physician and patient communication in an effort to build trust and promote healing. According to research, effective communication can lower patient stress levels and encourage devotion to recommended treatments, while increasing physician satisfaction.

Dr. Ruckdeschel is one of the preeminent clinical leaders in oncology and a distinguished lung cancer physician scientist. He is internationally recognized and is consistently placed on the America’s Top Doctors and Best Doctors lists.
