New Exhibit, Alien Worlds and Androids, Brings Interactive Space-Like Experiences To Life At DISCOVERY Children’s Museum

DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is bringing an out-of-this-world traveling exhibit, “Alien Worlds and Androids,” created by GES, to the Las Vegas valley beginning Saturday, Feb. 9. The exhibit features high-end, state-of-the-art content from Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and NASA. 

The exhibit includes nine space-like sub-areas spanning across 5,000 square feet and is designed for guests to explore the many wonders of life beyond planet Earth, sparking the question, “Are we alone?”

“We are so eager to open the doors to Alien Worlds and Androids,” said DISCOVERY Children’s Museum President and CEO Melissa Kaiser. “This exhibit offers such a unique experience to our guests and encourages a scientific and educational experience with a twist on space-like curiosities. The new exhibit will offer an exciting opportunity to explore that the whole family will want to get involved in.”

The new exhibit offers Museum guests the chance to experience firsthand the exploration of alien life within and beyond our solar system. The installation features several areas highlighting the theories and technology used to investigate remote solar systems and navigate extreme environments found on Earth. The nine space-themed experiences within the exhibit will include multiple immersive installations that mirror the practices and machinery used by scientists in their exploration of the universe.

The nine interactive areas that can be found in the exhibit include:

• Area One “Are We Alone?”: In this area, guests will wonder what the universe really holds while being presented with the question that has fascinated many for centuries, “Are We Alone?”
• Area Two “Looking for Life in Space” Museum guests will be introduced to the idea of life on exoplanets with interactive experiments such as the Extreme Planet Makeover.
• Area Three “Alien Life on Earth”: The state-of-the-art area will highlight technology that allows scientists to collect data on extremophiles including the submersible ALVIN, complete with robotic arms and thermometers.
• Area Four “Artificial Intelligence and Robots”: Families will discover the differences between robots and androids and get up close to the robots made famous in iconic films, including the T-800 from “The Terminator” franchise.
• Area Five “Robot Space Explorers”: Guests will explore the journey to Mars and learn about the other intergalactic explorations robots have taken in the past.
• Area Six “Explore the Solar System”: Offering copious amounts of data collected by scientists, this section of the exhibit will provide explorers with new insight on the possibility of life existing on certain planets and moons.
• Area Seven “The Robotization of Planet Earth”: This interactive area showcases the function of robots on our planet and gives families the opportunity to maneuver high-tech machinery such as a mechanical arm.
• Area Eight “I-Cyborg”: The I-Cyborg will teach children all about robotic suits and exoskeletons, which can give humans super-human strength or help those with spinal injuries to learn to walk again.
• Area Nine “The Human Microbiome”: Visitors will learn about the “aliens” also known as microbiomes, living in their own bodies.

“Alien Worlds and Androids” will be at DISCOVERY Children’s Museum from Saturday, Feb. 9 through Sunday, May 5. Museum members are invited for an exclusive preview of the exhibit on Friday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m. The uniquely designed exhibition was created by GES and features content from Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and NASA. The interactive possibilities within “Alien Worlds and Androids” provides guests with first-time opportunities to explore the wonderous technology NASA uses in space.
