New exhibit at Springs Preserve explores Mastering the Mysteries of Light
Las Vegas artist Austine Wood Comarow creates remarkable interactive, changing images using thousands of tiny pieces of colorless cellophane, polarized filters and light.pieces of colorless cellophane, polarized filters and light.
Comarow’s method, called Polage art, allows her to reveal the multitudes of colors of the visible light spectrum in playful, interactive scenes of nature.
Exhibit on display daily in the Big Springs Gallery in the Origen Museum July 15 – September 18, 2016. This exhibit is free for Springs Preserve members and included with paid general admission.
About the artist – Austine Wood Comarow
http://austine.com/about/artists-statement-bio/Austine Wood Comarow, known professionally as Austine, is a highly acclaimed artist who invented her own technique to create colorful works using no pigments but rather principles of the physics of light. Her art form, called Polage, uses clear cellulose and polarizing filters to turn a colorless design into an explosion of color.
After spending her youth in the international environment of Geneva, Switzerland, where her father directed the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Las Vegas resident Austine obtained her B.A. from the University of Indiana and her M.F.A. from Syracuse University. Her works are held in private, corporate and museum collections across the globe and have been displayed in numerous exhibitions for decades.
