Noah’s Animal House Celebrates 7th Anniversary of Keeping Pets with Families of Domestic Violence
Every 15 seconds in America, a woman is battered by her partner. Thankfully there’s refuge for women, children and their pets to flee to safety at The Shade Tree shelter and Noah’s Animal House (NAH) in Southern Nevada.
To ensure that family pets can remain with the families who have fled from a domestic violence situation, fourteen area businesses will raise funds Oct. 1-14 by inviting customers to “bark up” or donate money on their bill at time of checkout or donate by purchasing a NAH signature plush dog for $20. All proceeds will benefit the operating expenses at NAH, an animal shelter located next door to The Shade Tree shelter that provides safety, shelter and support for the pets of women and children of domestic violence situations.
As is often the case, many women will not leave an abuser because they threaten to harm or kill the family pet when the victim attempted to flee. NAH was the first stand-alone shelter in the country dedicated to keeping the entire family united as they transition out of an abusive situation and reside at The Shade Tree Shelter. Since opening its doors in October 2007 on the campus of The Shade Tree Shelter, NAH has provided shelter for more than 800 pets equating to 65,000 boarding nights.
“When we built Noah’s, our priority was to eliminate one barrier of leaving an abusive relationship,” said founder Staci Alonso. “A lot of women don’t want to leave their pets for fear that their pets might be abused or even killed. Part of the healing component for these women is being able to have their best friend with them.”

About Noah’s Animal House at The Shade Tree Shelter
Located at 1 W Owens Ave in North Las Vegas, NV, The Shade Tree shelter not only takes in abused women and children who have fled from a domestic violence situation but is the first shelter in the Country to have a stand–alone home called “Noah’s Animal House” to provide safety, shelter and support for the pets of its clients. In a national survey, 85% of women seeking safety in a domestic violence shelter reported pet abuse in their home.
With 364 permanent beds, The Shade Tree provides over 100,000 nights of shelter each year and 100% of its services are provided completely free of charge, regardless of the length of stay.
