Opportunity Village Holds Special Groundbreaking Ceremony at West Oakey Campus
On Thursday, February 21st, Opportunity Village broke ground on the first phase of its long awaited Revive & Renew Project, an approximately $15 million expansion and remodel of the not-for-profit’s West Oakey Campus, in front of a crowd that included Congresswoman Dina Titus, Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, a regional representative for United States Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and Opportunity Village Board Members, Executives and client ambassadors.

The Revive & Renew Project, which estimates to conclude in October, will provide major upgrades to Opportunity Village’s West Oakey Campus to fulfill the current and future client needs for the most up-to-date job training, therapeutic habilitation and creative endeavors. The organization continues to fundraise for the second phase of this project.

“The future of Opportunity Village is about always reinventing the process, always thinking about what’s next,” said Bob Brown, President & CEO of Opportunity Village. “That’s why this project is so important to all of us. … It’s a special day for us and we’re all very excited.”

The West Oakey Campus, constructed in 1990, is Opportunity Village’s oldest campus and is home to the organization’s Magical Forest. The much-needed remodel will include a dedicated transportation hub providing a safe and accessible area for client arrivals and departures, a new Multipurpose Center and redesigned program spaces to help adults with disabilities acquire more advanced work and life skills.

At Thursday’s ceremony, Brown accepted a certificate of senatorial commendation on behalf of Senator Cortez Masto and a certificate of special congressional commendation from Congresswoman Titus, who also took the podium to speak at the ceremony.

“Opportunity Village has been making magic in people’s lives for 65 years and here at this spot for almost 30 – just think about all the lives that you (Opportunity Village) have changed,” Titus said. “It warms my heart and I’m so pleased to be involved with this.”
