RTC Kicks off Summer Heat Campaign Helping Transit Riders Stay Cool
The official start of summer is almost here and we want to help our transit riders stay cool and safe. We kicked off our annual campaign, Summer Heat, at the Bonneville Transit Center last Wednesday, just one of 13 events planned.

RTC Kicks off Summer Heat Campaign Helping Transit Riders Stay CoolThroughout the summer months, RTC staff will be visiting transit centers and the busiest bus stops to hand out water, sunscreen, prizes, and most importantly heat safety information.

“I’ve been here for 20 years and it gets hot and I think people need to be educated,” said transit rider, Rodney.  “A lot of people shockingly don’t know all the things you should do when you’re in the desert.”

It is important for transit riders to understand the dangers associated with hot temperatures. While extreme heat can be dangerous, staying healthy can be easy by remembering simple tips including: drinking plenty of water, avoiding direct sunlight, dressing in lightweight and light colored clothing, and wearing sunscreen. For transit riders, it means utilizing the rideRTC app to know exactly when your bus is arriving so you don’t have to wait for prolonged periods of time outside at the stop.

If you prefer ride hailing, we have a new and exciting partnership with the Las Vegas Coalition for Zero Fatalities to provide Lyft ridesharing discounts. Use the promo code SUMMERHEAT19 to receive $2 off 10 rides.

Year after year, our Summer Heat Campaign continues to help the public defeat the heat thanks, in part, to our partners who support our efforts to raise heat safety awareness.
