This season, Nevada Public Radio is extending its greetings across the airwaves with its special holiday programming on both its News 88.9 KNPR and Classical 89.7 KCNV stations.

Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory
Friday, December 24, 5:30 to 6 p.m.
A classic story of Truman Capote’s childhood, and the Christmas he spent with his cousin Sook in Monroeville, Alabama. Performed by Gloria and Byron Tidwell, in a production recorded in the studios of KNPR.

A Christmas Carol
Friday, December 24, 7 to 10 p.m.
An exceptional presentation of the complete Charles Dickens story, read by Doug Brown. (Special thanks to Iowa Public Radio.)

Tinsel Tales: NPR Christmas Favorites
Friday, December 24, 10 p.m. and Saturday, December 25, 7 p.m.

Jonathan Winters’ A Christmas Carol

An updated version of a public radio tradition hosted by NPR’s Lisa Simeone. Master comedian Jonathan Winters presents a distinctive reading of Dickens’ holiday classic, with a special performing edition prepared by Dickens for his own presentations. Also featuring Mimi Kennedy.

All Songs Considered Holiday Special

The Rose Ensemble takes you back to the elegance of the Elizabethan era, with a concert of medieval carols, motets, and anthems by English Renaissance composers Robert Parsons, William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, and others.

Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
Friday, December 24, 7 to 9 a.m. and Saturday, December 25, 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Hosted by Michael Barone and dating back almost a century, this is our annual live broadcast from the chapel of King’s College in Cambridge, England. The 30-voice King’s College Choir performs the legendary Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service of Biblical readings and music.

St. Olaf Christmas Festival
Friday December 24, 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, December 25, 8 to 10 a.m.
This service in song and word has become one of the nation’s most cherished holiday celebrations. Tickets to the live event, which takes place at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., are always gone months in advance. The festival includes hymns, carols, choral works and orchestral selections celebrating the Nativity and featuring more than 500 student musicians who are members of five choirs and the St. Olaf Orchestra.

Welcome Christmas

This lively musical program is a perennial broadcast favorite featuring the Minneapolis-based ensemble, VocalEssence. Recognized internationally as one of America’s premier choral arts organizations, VocalEssence is led by the visionary Philip Brunelle.

Echoes of Christmas

For more than 30 years, The Dale Warland Singers provided magical performances to listeners across the country, gaining acclaim as America’s premier choir. The ensemble’s signature holiday concert, beloved by public radio listeners nationwide, was the annual Echoes of Christmas program. Drawing upon the group’s archive of live performances, Dale Warland together with host Brian Newhouse (SymphonyCast) create a very special musical treat: a collection of the best and most moving choral classics celebrating Christmas.

Noel – A Christmas from Paris

Bill McGlaughlin hosts this hour, taking listeners on a musical Christmas tour from medieval Paris to the present day, and featuring the celebrated Westminster Choir from Princeton.

Our broadcast of the Lessons and Carols service from the National Cathedral in Washington, hosted by Robert Aubry Davis, and featuring the Cathedral choirs and Cathedral Choral Society, the Bishop of Washington, and the Dean and canons of the cathedral.
