The only slide of its kind in Nevada, the Tornado is a four-person raft attraction that catapults riders from 36 feet in the air through a 110-foot tunnel before dropping them into the 45-foot-wide funnel where they spin back and forth through swirling water before plummeting into the eye of the storm. As the raft sweeps up the Tornado wall and crosses its centerline, guests experience weightlessness or zero gravity. With their raft almost vertical on the wall, riders report feeling like they are about to tip over, but the curved funnel wall keeps them perfectly safe. After a series of these oscillations, they descend through a tube to the exit pool.

The slide was developed by industry leader ProSlide Technology. The innovation and ride performance of the ProSlide TORNADO has been recognized with many Best Water Ride honors, including the field’s most prestigious Impact Award from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).

“We were so happy to open the park in April, providing a longer season for guests; but I am even more excited and thankful that our construction partners have met our commitment to launch our new ride on time giving visitors a new way to enjoy outdoor water park fun, particularly with such an acclaimed slide as the Tornado,” said Takuya Ohki, general manager of Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas. “The Tornado’s true funnel shape is patented by ProSlide and can’t be replicated. It’s the physics of the funnel shape that create an unparalleled experience for riders. With the addition of the Tornado and the other improvements we’ve added at the park this year, we expect another phenomenal season.”

Special activities celebrating the launch of the Tornado were held with Tornado Twister games to benefit Opportunity Village, and a DJ, music and other competitions for prizes, including the limbo, dancing, hula hooping, and trivia.

Guests were invited to participate in Wet‘n’Wild’s “Twist to Assist” effort to support a local nonprofit organization by playing Tornado Twister on a giant inflatable Twister board. The cost to play was $5 per team – up to four people – with winners entered into a drawing for prizes. All proceeds from the games benefit Opportunity Village, a not-for-profit organization serving people in the Southern Nevada community with significant intellectual disabilities to improve their lives and the lives of their families. Founded in 1954, Opportunity Village is one of the most recognized and respected Community Habilitation Programs in the United States.

Ohki added park improvements include extended operating hours, more shade and seating, additional parking, warmer water in the kid’s area, and a new season pass option, providing several affordable ways to enjoy the park all summer.

Wet‘n’Wild also has added more special events, such as offering more Friday night Dive‘n’Movies and serving as a host site for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 20.
