The one-mile Fun Run is for “triathletes to be” and aimed to help stem the rising tide of childhood obesity through exercise and healthy lifestyles.

The company will provide complimentary entry fees for the race to local community organizations, enabling youth who often face barriers to good health, to compete in a running event.

UnitedHealthcare’s mascot, Dr. Health E. Hound, along with community supporters and families, will cheer the kids on as they “compete” for healthy living.

Childhood obesity is a national health crisis with devastating consequences. Childhood obesity has tripled since 1980 with nearly one in every three children being overweight or obese (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Nevada ranks 7th in the country with 24.5% of adults estimated to be obese (United Health Foundation’s Annual Health Rankings); 11% of teens and 13. 6% of children age 2 – 5 are estimated to be obese (CDC) Obesity now contributes to the death of more than 360,000 Americans a year, and today’s children may a have shorter life span than that of their parents.

  • 8:45 a.m. – warm up with IRONKIDS and UHC mascot Dr. Health E. Hound
  • 9 a.m. – start of race 10 a.m. – finish line, presentation of medals for athletes
