(Comprehensive) and The PENTA Building Group (PENTA) joined at a job site in Las Vegas this week to continue a partnership and Valley-wide campaign aimed toward promoting sun safety and skin cancer awareness year-round.

Prior to beginning work for the day, PENTA employees and subcontractors attended a Safety Stand Down promoting the importance of sun safety.

Wolfram Samlowski, MD, FACP, renowned medical oncologist at Comprehensive and expert in skin cancer and melanoma, spoke at the event encouraging workers to protect themselves from the sun as well as keep precautionary measures top-of-mind.

Since starting its partnership with PENTA in 2016, Comprehensive has provided tens thousands of packets of SPF 30 sunscreen to workers and has developed skin safety awareness posters that are displayed at all PENTA job-sites.

In addition to its continued work together in Nevada, effective immediately, free sunscreen packets and skin safety informational components will now be available at all PENTA’s job sites in Las Vegas, and at its sites in Southern California and Arizona.

“We want every person to leave our jobsite as healthy as they walked onto it – and that means long-term as well as just the end of the day,” said PENTA’s President, John Cannito. “That’s why partnering with Comprehensive to provide educational resources about skin cancer and sunscreen has become an important part of our program.”

“In our fourth year, this partnership with The PENTA Building Group has impacted locals where they work each day,” said Jon Bilstein, executive director of Comprehensive. “Our goal with this effort, and many others throughout the region is to keep prospective patients from ever having to visit one of our clinics with a skin-related condition.”

Earlier this year, Comprehensive added Clark County Parks and Recreation (more than 50 locations throughout Southern Nevada) and through a new collaboration with the Nevada Cancer Coalition last year, Comprehensive added the Springs Preserve, Downtown Summerlin as well as the Cadence master planned community as partners. In 2019, Comprehensive continues its partnerships with Wet’nWild Las Vegas (6th year) and the Las Vegas Aviators minor league baseball team (5th year).

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, with more than 5 million basal and squamous cell skin cancers diagnosed each year. Approximately 850 Nevada residents will be diagnosed with melanoma in 2019 alone. Through collaborative efforts, these statistics can be combatted, and residents can mitigate the chance of ever having to endure treatment for a serious skin condition.

At PENTA, safety takes priority over all other firm initiatives, ensuring that anyone that steps foot on a jobsite is well versed in safe and secure practices. As part of this ongoing effort, the general contractor hosts regular Safety Stand Down events, focusing on a different aspect of job safety every quarter. As a result, PENTA maintains an exemplary safety rating and continues to be a thoughtful safety leader within the industry.
