Vegas PBS Offers Described and Captioned Media Center, A Free Statewide Lending Library For Autism, Blindness and Special Needs
In recognition of World Braille Day, Vegas PBS reminds the community of its free Described and Captioned Media Center,  is a grant-funded free-loan library serving those with special needs through the state of Nevada.

Vegas PBS offers a specialized collection of over 3,300 unique titles of educational media addressing autism, blindness, deafness and developmental delays. The DCMC library distributes content for those who are blind/visually impaired, deaf/hearing impaired, and for those with autism or developmental delays. Materials are mailed direct to library members free-of-charge, including return shipping.

“Those who have learned about us value and use our library resources,” said Dr. Niki Bates, Director of Educational Media Services at Vegas PBS. “Patrons are telling other organizations and families about our services and bringing them in to visit our library. Wells Fargo also made it possible for Vegas PBS to expand the DCMC with the new children’s area and funds additional table space where paraprofessionals, educators and caregivers accessing the DCMC can use materials strategically to reach learning goals, conduct small meetings and consult with children and adults addressing special needs.  With the support of a grant from Wells Fargo, Vegas PBS has expanded the DCMC with a new children’s area where early intervention providers can conduct parent/child interactive playgroup sessions, specialists can conduct evaluations and children can play safely while parents and caregivers visit the free-loan library.
