Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada Celebrates Eighth Anniversary

The Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada held its annual Anniversary and Member Appreciation Luncheon at Cili’s Restaurant at Bali Hai Golf Course on May 21, 2010, to celebrate the chamber’s eighth anniversary.

The chamber honored and recognized exceptional individuals and companies that have contributed outstanding sponsorship and service to the Women’s Chamber since 2002.

At this event, the Silent Auction sponsored by ABC Publishing and Celebrity Registry raised funds for the Children’s Miracle Network. The money for this charity stays in Nevada at the St Rose Dominican Hospitals Pediatric Centers in Las Vegas and Henderson.

The emcee for the fourth year was news Anchor John Huck with FOX 5 News. Entertainment was provided by comedienne Shayla Rivera, who is the opening act for Paul Rodriguez at the Tropicana Las Vegas.

Among the honorees was Dorothy North from Elko, Nev., who was the chamber’s very first member eight years ago.

Other members and community leaders honored were: Humanitarian-Barbara Wood; Board of Governor-The Honorable Lorraine Hunt-Bono; Government-Anita Laruy; Executive-Pam Cach, Romie Semenza, and Trudy Platzer; Philanthropy-American Family, Lizzette Villanueva, Charley Palmer, Richard Feminella, and MGM MIRAGE, Corporate Diversity and Community Affairs-Debra Nelson. More honors included: Sponsor/Donations (Above and Beyond)-Karen Scherer, Sue Hoffman, Barbara Wilson, Cory Brooks, Sonya Washington, Robin Howe, Judy Sutton, Kathleen Gustafson; Minority Chamber Appreciation-Latin Chamber, Eloiza Martinez; and Non Profit Member Appreciation-Cassandra Cotton, Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Honored in the chamber’s Anniversary Magazine as member supporters for six-plus years were: Area Health Education Center of Southern Nevada (AHEC), American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), American Cancer Society, Audio Energy DJ, Gail Sande, Harmon & Davies, PC, Las Vegas Outlet Center, Las Vegas Premium Outlets, Large Vision Business Network Mixer (LVBNM), Professional Permanent Cosmetics/Tattoo Vanish, Inc., Robin Robbins, Smith & Francis, LLC-CPA, S&R Gift World, Sharon Phoenix, Sierra Nevada Job Corps, Southern Nevada Water Authority and Las Vegas Valley Water District. In addition, there was a list of all volunteers for the past eight years in the anniversary program.

June Beland, the chamber’s president and CEO, explains that the mission of the Women’s Chamber is to mentor and support women in Nevada. “All the women and businesses honored are the main reason for the chamber’s growth and phenomenal success.”
