Amazon Celebrates Opening of New Henderson Facility
Tray Turner and Mikenna McEntee celebrate the first item to be marked into inventory at Amazon’s cross-dock facility in Henderson: an AMD Ryzen computer processor.

Amazon’s first building in Henderson officially celebrated its “day one” last week. Employees at the new 600,000-square-foot cross-dock facility support customer fulfillment by receiving large orders of inventory and redistributing products to fulfillment centers across the company’s operations network.
After a western-themed kickoff celebration, associates unloaded the first truckload of products and marked receipt of the building’s first item: an AMD Ryzen computer processor. The new site will continue to ramp up to full operations over the next several weeks and will have more than 1,000 full-time employees by the 2020 holiday shopping season.
“Amazon is incredibly proud to open our first cross-dock facility in the state, providing a safe, inclusive and innovative work environment that offers associates competitive pay and benefits starting on day one,” said Eduardo Escalante, general manager for Amazon’s Henderson facility. “Our team is an integral part of Amazon’s fulfillment network, helping to bring the products of small- and-medium sized businesses closer to our customers throughout the Southwest and beyond.”
Amazon now employs more than 7,500 full-time employees throughout the state of Nevada.
“We are thrilled to welcome Amazon to the city of Henderson and thank them for investing in our community and providing economic opportunities for our residents,” said Mayor Debra March. “Amazon is an internationally recognized brand that perfectly complements our strategic focus on attracting and developing businesses that will strengthen and diversify Henderson’s economy, provide high-quality jobs and ultimately contribute to a better quality of life for current and future residents.”
On top of Amazon’s minimum $15 per hour wage, the company offers full-time employees comprehensive benefits including full medical, vision, and dental insurance as well as a 401(k) with 50-percent match starting on day one. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.
All associates go through hours of safety training and ongoing coaching and have access to continuing education opportunities through Amazon’s upskilling programs, such as Career Choice, in which the company will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. Since the program’s launch, more than 25,000 employees have pursued degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few.
In addition, Amazon has pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in demand jobs. Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.
Amazon’s Henderson facility follows all health and safety protocols including social distancing guidelines. Across operations, Amazon has invested more than $800 million dollars in the first half of this year on safety measures like temperature checks, masks, enhanced cleaning, gloves, sanitation stations, and onsite testing, to name a few.
