City of Henderson Opens Fire Station 85

The City of Henderson’s new Fire Station 85 has officially opened its doors at 233 Horizon Dr. next to Hidden Falls Park to provide firefighting, emergency medical and all-hazard response to about 25,000 residents in southeast Henderson.

“Fire Station 85 will play a critical role in protecting the residents and businesses in southeast Henderson, which has experienced tremendous population growth over the last 15 years,” said Mayor Debra March. “This state-of-the-art fire station will house crews and equipment to battle fires and provide life-saving services to those in need of assistance and it demonstrates the City of Henderson’s deep commitment to public safety.”

“The opening of Station 85 enables us to continue to provide the high level of service that has made the Henderson Fire Department one of the best in the nation,” said Fire Chief Shawn White. “It is perfectly situated to help us meet our goals for response times and increase the level of protection that we provide to the community.”

The 11,500 square foot building was constructed for $9.7 million and includes three apparatus bays, training facilities, equipment and supply storage and accommodations for up to eleven firefighters. There are currently six crew members staffing the station 24 hours a day, equipped with one fire engine, one advanced life support ambulance rescue and an all-terrain response vehicle that enables firefighters to reach injured hikers on Henderson’s extensive trail system.

The architectural design for Station 85 is based on a prototype developed for Station 91 which opened in Inspirada in 2017. The green building is engineered for energy and water efficiency and provides a healthier indoor environment for the occupants.

As the Henderson Fire Department welcomes more diversity into the fire service, the station is designed to be gender inclusive with private sleeping quarters and bathrooms organized around shared living and training spaces.
