Clark County Mask Directive In Effect Through Aug. 17
After an emergency meeting to discuss rising COVID-19 cases and positivity rates in Southern Nevada, the Clark County Commission voted to require mask use for employees when indoors in public spaces at their place of work. This requirement is for all people, regardless of their vaccination status. This goes into effect at 12 a.m. Thursday, July 22, and continues through Tuesday, Aug. 17, when Commissioners will revisit the issue.
This move was made pursuant to the Governor’s directives, which handed over enforcement measures for the pandemic from the state to County officials.
Other parts of the plan that were passed after hearing from the Southern Nevada Health District:▪ Event venues hosting gatherings of 250 people or more will be required to submit COVID-19 mitigation plans for festivals and other large events.▪ Due to concerns about increasing COVID-19 caseloads, local businesses will be asked to post new signage asking people to follow Health District guidance recommending everyone to wear masks in crowded indoor public places where they may have contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.▪ There will be a new push and renewed focus to increase the percentage of people getting vaccinated.
On Friday, July 16, the Southern Nevada Health District issues the following statement recommending both unvaccinated and vaccinated people wear masks in public settings:
As COVID-19 case counts and the positivity rate continues to increase in our community, the Southern Nevada Health District is now recommending both unvaccinated and vaccinated people wear masks in crowded indoor public places where they may have contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.
Using masks correctly has proven to be effective in helping to prevent people from getting and spreading COVID-19. With the rise in cases and slowing vaccine rates in Clark County, the Health District’s recommendation to wear masks in crowded public settings, including grocery stores, malls, large events, and casinos, is a step to fully utilize the tools we have available to stop the pandemic.
In addition to wearing face masks, the Health District and its partners continue to offer COVID-19 vaccines and testing throughout the community. The COVID-19 vaccine is the most important and effective step people can take to protect themselves and others from COVID-19. Additionally, people who are sick should stay home and get tested if they have symptoms related to COVID-19. People who are unvaccinated and have taken part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19, such as traveling or attending mass gatherings should also get tested.
