Las Vegas Sees Increase in Visitors as County Approves New Mitigation Plan
Las Vegas is closer than ever before to returning to pre-pandemic life.
Clark County Commissioners approved a revision to the COVID-19 mitigation and management plan unanimously during a Tuesday meeting, effectively allowing the county to return to pre-pandemic guidelines June 1.
Clark County includes Las Vegas as well as surrounding cities including North Las Vegas and Henderson.
Chairman Marilyn Kirkpatrick announced the revised plans during Tuesday’s meeting.
County Commissioner Ross Miller also shared a flier to his social media regarding the revised mitigation plan.
The flyer explains that restrictions involving capacity limits, large gatherings, dancing, will no longer be required.
The flier also states that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically social distance. However, restrictions may still be in place according to federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, as well as local business rules, regulations, and workplace guidance.
Face masks will also be required for everyone regardless of vaccine status on public transportation and travel hubs, including airports.

The updated mitigation reflects a recent trend of Las Vegas businesses and events returning to increased or full-capacity and easing social distancing requirements, as well as the United States loosening its COVID restrictions.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scrapped mask requirements and social distancing requirements for fully vaccinated people in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance
Updated CDC guidelines also state fully vaccinated people can refrain from testing following a known exposure unless they are residents or employees of a correctional or detention facility or a homeless shelter.
Last month, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak allowed Nevada’s county’s to determine and manage their own mitigation efforts by May 1.
Clark County Commissioners voted last month to increase capacity limits from 50 to 80 percent for gatherings including gyms, retail stores, museums, indoor malls, community and recreational buildings, and karaoke establishments.
Before the updated revision, some Vegas establishments have already moved toward opening their operations at full capacity.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board has allowed waivers to increase capacity to 100 percent at several major Las Vegas gaming properties, including all of MGM Grand’s properties.
Las Vegas has seen an increase in visitors as it has worked toward reopening.
McCarran International Airport saw a 60 percent increase in airline passengers in March with over 2.5 million travelers.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority also saw a 45 percent increase in visitors from February of last year to March 2021 as the city welcomed more than 2.2 million visitors.
