Commissioner Segerblom to Deliver Pizzas to Homeless Youth as Part of National Pizza Day Effort
Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom is partnering with Pizza Stone’d, a local pizzeria, to deliver about 20 pizzas and desserts for dinner tonight at 5 p.m. to the HELP of Southern Nevada Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, 1640 E. Flamingo Road.
Today is National Pizza Day, and as part of the annual effort pizzerias across the country are encouraged to deliver at least 10 large pizzas to local food banks, shelter or care centers of their choice to help reduce hunger. The initiative is organized by a non-profit group called “Slice Out Hunger,” which has raised more than $1 million to fund hunger relief efforts across the country since 2009. Pizza Stone’d is a Las Vegas mobile brick oven catering service that specializes in wood-fired pizza.
“I appreciate our pizza industry partners doing their part to help reduce hunger here and in communities across the country,” said Commissioner Segerblom. “We are focusing our attention on our homeless youth, who are especially vulnerable every day, let alone in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Homeless youth don’t have the support of loving families who can help them navigate the challenges of online schooling, job losses and trying to stay healthy and safe during this difficult time.”
