Congresswoman Susie Lee, Commissioner Jim Gibson and Councilwoman Michelle Romero Partner With State and Local Workforce Agencies to Host Virtual Job Fair on Aug. 7
Congresswoman Susie Lee, Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson, Henderson Councilwoman Michelle Romero, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), and Workforce Connections’ One-Stop Career Center, are hosting a virtual job fair starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7. The virtual job fair will feature Henderson area employers that are currently hiring.
“We want to welcome employers and job seekers alike to participate in our first ever virtual job fair,” said Commissioner Gibson. “Because of unprecedented times of unemployment in our community combined with our new normal of social distancing, we knew we needed to reimagine our popular job fair and create a virtual environment for job seekers to meet with local employers and learn about available job openings in the Henderson area.”
Job seekers and local businesses or agencies looking to hire new employees are encouraged to pre-register online for the virtual job fair through Workforce Connections’ One-Stop Career Center at nvcareercenter.org/henderson2020. The virtual job fair is free; however, registration is required in order to participate. Interested attendees can also call (702) 636-2346 for information.
Several employers from the Henderson area are expected to participate in the virtual job fair including retailers, hotels and casinos, and call centers. Job seekers are encouraged to have updated resumes in a Word Document, PDF or another format that can be easily emailed to employers participating in the fair.
“As the pandemic rages on and unemployment skyrockets, we have to use every tool in our toolbox to help working families,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “While the job market may feel bleak, there are Henderson businesses hiring right now, which is why job fairs like this are so important as a resource to connect Nevadans with employers. I’m proud to join Councilwoman Romero, Commissioner Gibson, Nevada JobConnect, and One-Stop Career Center in launching this virtual job fair to help southern Nevada’s working families.”
“We are thrilled to offer this inaugural virtual job fair to connect companies that are currently hiring with a diverse range of job seekers,” said Councilwoman Michelle Romero. “Through this innovative approach to bring together job seekers with employers, we hope to provide economic opportunity and financial relief for residents who have been impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency.”
“The job market is different than it has been, but there are businesses and industries that are actively hiring,” said Jaime Cruz, Workforce Connections executive director. “Connecting those employers to a ready workforce is our mission, and we are proud to work with our elected officials and partners to bring this opportunity to the community.”
“Unique circumstances warrant normally unconventional ideas and Henderson’s inaugural virtual job fair provides a novel and safe platform for both businesses and job seekers,” said Kimberly Gaa, Administrator of Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s Employment Security Division. “As a state, we must find innovative ways of expanding our workforce and growing Nevada’s economy, and this event is a progressive step in that direction.”
