COVID-19 Remembrance Project Comes to Las Vegas Welcome Sign
County Commissioners and a group of local residents brought the COVID-19 remembrance Floral Heart Project to Southern Nevada on Monday, laying a heart of roses in front of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign in honor of all those who have lost their lives to the virus.
“We have lost too many of our friends and neighbors to the virus,” Commissioner Michael Naft said. “We are all in this together, and that includes dealing with the grief that comes with the tragic loss of so many of our fellow Americans.”
“Through the Floral Heart Project, we are coming together to grieve for all those we’ve lost to COVID-19,” Commissioner William McCurdy II said. “While we optimistically look towards the end of the pandemic, we will never forget all those who suffered the most.”
The Floral Heart Project, a COVID-19 memorial effort started by New York City artist Kristina Libby, is laying almost 100 floral hearts at iconic locations across the United States today, March 1.
In Clark County the effort was led by Jessica Bliven, a Las Vegas resident and nurse whose mother passed away after contracting the virus. Bliven is also the founder of the Facebook group @NevadaCovid-19LossSupportGroup.
