Las Vegas City Council Votes to Launch Brewery Row
The City of Las Vegas launched a new concept in an effort to join the craft beer movement, prominent in cities all over the country.
“Brewery Row,” first mentioned in today’s Las Vegas City Council meeting, is being planned for the downtown area where a natural cluster of craft brewers have already been creating and serving.
“It is very exciting to highlight these talented artisans who are bringing even more energy to downtown,” Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman said.
“Unique trends and clever ideas help Las Vegas continue to be the top tourist destination in the world. I encourage people to come down and try all the breweries, and enjoy everything downtown has to offer.”
Plans for the area include adding “Brewery Row” way finding banners in front of the designated business as part of the city’s newly launched district banner program. Additionally the City Council will hold a vote to potentially create an incentive package for the area, which will encourage more brewers to join.
According to Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, author of the incentive bill that was introduced at the council meeting today, “This new opportunity will be the key to continuing the momentum many pioneer brewers started. I am confident these incentives will attract many who are interested in pursuing their life’s passion and dream.”
The proposed incentive package to recruit new like business to the area includes an authorization on a temporary basis of the waiver of the liquor license origination charge for qualifying new businesses to be established within the Las Vegas Brewery Row.
The council plans to vote on the proposed incentive package in late May.
“Tenaya Creek Brewery was one of the founding members of the brewing community in Ward 5,” said Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear.
“Including them in this experience along with other downtown breweries is going to make a robust tasting experiences for all those that visit our downtown.”
Breweries & tap rooms officially part of the program are the following; Crafthaus Brewery, Three Sheets Craft Brew Bar and The Mad Fermentist, Hop Nuts Brewing Downtown, Nevada Brew Works, HUDL Brewing Company, Beer District Brewing, Able Baker Brewing.
In addition Tenaya Creek Brewery and Banger Brewing although not in the incentive area are included.
“I have visited brewery areas across the country and have seen the great potential it has to bring people to an area to explore,” said City Manager Jorge Cervantes.
The district banners were outlined and approved by City Council as part of the Downtown Master Plan – Vision 2045, developed in June 2016.
Districts included in this project are the Resort & Casino District, Civic & Business District, 18b Arts District, Gateway District, Symphony Park District, Market District, Fremont East District, Design District, Cashman District, Historic Westside District, Founders District and the Las Vegas Medical District. In addition, there is Restaurant Row @ Carson Ave. and now Brewery Row.
