Smith’s Donates $150,000 to Combat Food Insecurity
Smith’s Food & Drug Stores in conjunction with The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation has announced $150,000 in donations to non-profit organizations who are supporting food insecure communities impacted as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Through the company’s Emergency COVID-19 Response Fund, Smith’s targeted donations will support local hunger relief organizations to deploy hunger-relief resources and support initiatives to communities where Smith’s has a presence.
Donation recipients include: Catholic Charities, Jas Foundation, CLNKids, The Salvation Army, Granite Education Foundation, University of Utah, University of New Mexico Hospital, Kitchen Angels, Project 4 Humanity, JRM Foundation, HopeLink, Flathead Food Bank and Frontline Mission.
“We are mindful that the coronavirus pandemic may result in more of our neighbors struggling with food insecurity during this challenging time – and we want to help,” said Aubriana Martindale, Smith’s Corporate Affairs Manager. “That is why Smith’s and The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation has directed $150,000 in donations to rapidly deploy hunger-relief resources to food-insecure communities we serve.”
To continue to accelerate the Fund’s critical response efforts, the Zero Hunger Zero Waste Foundation has a charitable giving platform, offering customers easy ways to meaningfully give back to their communities. Customers can easily and quickly support the Fund in the following ways.
- Round Up to End Hunger (In stores): Customers can now round up their purchase to the nearest dollar or commit a donation of their choice ($1, $5 and $10 in value) at check lanes across Smith’s 141 stores in seven states.
- Direct Giving (Online): Customers can direct individual gifts in the amount of their choice to the Fund at ZeroHungerWasteFoundation.org.
