Las Vegas is Getting a Major Film Industry Event

A major industry film event has officially picked Las Vegas as the host city for its upcoming conference later this year. Here’s what you should know.

Sin City has been trying to establish itself as a “Hollywood 2.0” for some time, and thanks to a decision by the Independent Film and Television Alliance, Las Vegas has taken a step in that direction, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The 45th American Film Market will officially be held at the Palms resort — one of the best corporate event spaces in Las Vegas — marking the first time that the film event will be held outside of Southern California.

If you’re unfamiliar with the American Film Market, the event is generally a multi-day affair that sees thousands of film and TV professionals meet to see screenings and to discuss development and financing deals.

This year, the event in Las Vegas will take place over the course of six days, from Tuesday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 10.

Reportedly, the Independent Film and Television Alliance made the decision to make the event a Las Vegas film event for a few reasons, including the fact that the Palms has a 14-screen multiplex theater and 170,000 square feet of meeting space on the property.

In the past, the American Film Market has attracted more than 7,000 people from 80 countries across the globe. Some high-profile films that been financed or sold from American Film Market events include “The Lord of the Rings,” “John Wick,” and “The Hunger Games.”

The fact that the Market will be a Las Vegas film event this year has “thrilled” the Nevada Film Office, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
