In September, Las Vegas Strip properties posted a gaming win down by more than 5% compared to the same month last year. This was according to data from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The Strip’s performance, while weaker year-over-year, still beat August’s $679 million. Such a monthly rebound is rare amid a challenging 2025 for casino operators.

The contrast is sharp. August was one of the lowest-earning months of the year, and September’s modest gain offers some optimism for operators hoping to stabilize the revenue trend. The $687 million win places September ahead of several months earlier in the year, suggesting some renewed activity on the Strip despite ongoing economic and tourism pressures.

Where the Drop Happened

A deep dive into the numbers reveals the sharpest losses came from high-stakes games. Baccarat, once a major driver of the Strip’s big wins, recorded a near 43% decline in revenue.

Sports betting also underperformed, with win amounts down nearly 40% despite total handle rising 3.5%. Across the board, table games and slots statewide saw higher volume.

It should be noted, statewide wide Nevada brought in $1.28 billion. That’s a huge amount of money, Period.

Another huge deal is that downtown Las Vegas casinos posted their fourth-best month ever with $89.2 million in gaming numbers, boosted by a 2.6% increase in slot play. These mixed numbers show that while the Strip faced declines, other Nevada gaming areas found small pockets of growth that kept overall state revenue strong.

There was some positivity across regional markets. Casinos on the Boulder Strip, Laughlin, and Mesquite all saw month-over-month growth ranging from 3.6% to 6.3%. In Reno, gaming win rose 5.2% in September, signaling that gaming demand across Nevada remains broad-based even as the Strip cools.

A key factor influencing the data is calendar timing. With one fewer weekend day in 2025 than in 2024, analysts say the shift likely affected high-spending traffic patterns and overall weekend performance.

Las Vegas remains the core engine of Nevada gaming, accounting for the majority of statewide revenue.

Bottom line…Vegas is still Vegas and is here to stay!
