Las Vegas Weddings Could Break Records on Dec. 31 — Here’s Why

The Las Vegas wedding industry is preparing itself for a blowout date on Dec. 31, 2023 for a very specific reason.

That’s because Dec. 31 this year reads as 12/31/23. In other words, it’s “1-2-3, 1-2-3.” Among those offering Vegas weddings, this is known as a specialty date. In other words, many couples will flock to Las Vegas to get married so that their anniversary falls on a unique and fun date.

However, this isn’t the only reason that the city is preparing for record numbers of weddings. There’s also the fact that Dec. 31, 2023 is New Year’s Eve — a date that’s already known to host over-the-top celebrations for the city.

Vegas Weddings President Melody Willis-Williams called the serendipitous occasion a “double whammy,” and added that the combination of the 12/31/23 date and New Year’s Eve means that it’ll be a “showstopper” for the city, according to the Associated Press.

As far as whether or not Vegas weddings could hit a new high, it all comes down to the number 4,492 — that’s the single-day record for weddings in Sin City. It happened to have been set on July 7, 2007 (7/7/2007). In second place was Nov. 11, 2011 (11/11/2011), when 3,125 couples got married.

Other speciality dates include 12/12/2012, when many couples headed to Vegas to get married on Dec. 12, 2012.

On average, about 450 to 550 couples flock to Las Vegas to get married on New Year’s Eve. This year, however, the Las Vegas wedding industry is seeing almost completely booked venues.
