The Vegas Loop, an underground tunnel system in Las Vegas, has officially reached an off-strip hotel with new stops. Here’s what to know.
A project of The Boring Company, the Vegas Loop is an underground network of tunnels meant for public transportation. The goal of these tunnels is to allow passengers to reach their destination with no stops and no sitting in traffic.
On Friday, The Boring Company announced that the Vegas Loop had reached Virgin Hotels, one of the best hotels off the Las Vegas Strip.
If you’ve never heard of the Vegas Loop, it’s a project by Elon Musk-owned The Boring Company to use tunnels as a form of quick transportation.
“Tunnels minimize usage of valuable surface land and do not conflict with existing transportation systems,” the company explains on its website. “A large network of tunnels can alleviate congestion in any city; no matter how large a city grows, more levels of tunnels can be added.”
Operating since 2021, the Loop uses Tesla model vehicles to shuttle passengers around Las Vegas through underground tunnels. Currently, there’s a short loop in operation between Resorts World and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
With the new stops at Virgin Hotels and Paradise, the Loop could possibly transport riders staying at the best Las Vegas airport hotels.
Currently, riders can travel between the three halls at the Las Vegas Convention Center for free. When additional new stops on the Las Vegas loop are completed, The Boring Company will begin charging a fee for riding, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
