6th Annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic Raises $15,000 for Henry’s Place Youth Camp
The 6th Annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic, held on Saturday, June 9, at Palm Valley Golf Course, raised $15,000 for Henry’s Place, a camp facility for the underprivileged youth in our valley currently being developed in Cedar City, UT. Proceeds from this event will be used to help obtain the necessary permits and begin construction at the campsite.
“I am truly grateful for the amount of continuous support from our community that is helping turn our dream into a reality,” said Dawn Prendes, widow of Sgt. Prendes and founder of Henry’s Place. “From Metro’s involvement and all of the golfers who participated to the generous donations of friends and local businesses and the media who help us promote our efforts, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Joining Dawn Prendes in honoring Henry and lending their support were L.V.M.P.D. Sheriff Douglas C. Gillespie, doo wop group N’Demand (Paris Las Vegas) who delivered a smooth rendition of the National Anthem, New Community Church Pastor Chris Bennett who delivered the morning invocation, golf pro Mike Dobbyn, 2007 RE/Max World Long Drive Champion who holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for the longest drive of 551 yards, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson, and Empire Comedy’s Cort McCown, among others.
Highlights of the tournament included the annual “Golf Balls from Heaven” fundraiser where a Metro Search & Rescue helicopter dropped 1000 pre-numbered, pre-sold golf balls over the driving range, sponsored by Julie Barbagallo of Commercial West Brokers, and the Awards Luncheon/Live Auction.
Henry’s Place Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, was formed in 2006 to honor Metro Sgt. Henry Prendes who gave his life in the line of duty protecting his hometown community.
