Idaho-Based Supermodified Teams to Invade Speedfest 2010 at the Bullring at LVMS Oct. 30

Two Idaho-based Supermodified Racing Association (www.smrasupermods.com) teams have filed entries for the Oct. 30 Speedfest 2010 at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Jeff Russell of Boise and Bryan Warf of Meridian both are looking forward to getting back into the driver’s seat after short absences.

“The Sept. 18 Harvest Classic at Madera (Calif.) Speedway was my shake-down race,” said Russell, who competed for the first time after undergoing back surgery late last year.

“We have just a good of chance of winning as ever,” said Warf of his odds at winning in Las Vegas. Warf’s car broke the camshaft at the Bullring’s July 1 SMRA race but he still sits second in the series’ point standings (33 behind July 1 winner Lonnie Adamson). “We had just figured out the car’s handling when the cam broke. We’ve refreshed the motor and shouldn’t have an issue with it.”

A trio of eastern Supermodifieds from Oswego (N.Y.) Speedway also are expected to enter. Speedfest 2010 will feature a one-day show of SMRA Supermodifieds, SRL Southwest Tour Late Models, USAC Midgets and U.S. Legend Cars Racing International classes (Bandoleros, Legend Cars and Thunder Roadsters). Speedfest 2010 takes place on Halloween Weekend, during the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at LVMS.

The Supermodifieds are the world’s fastest short-track cars and should put on another excellent show. Derek Thorn won the most recent SRL Late Model feature on May 8. The SRL Late Models will end their season at the Bullring with a 200-lap feature.

Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. The Bullring’s concession stand offers a family-friendly dollar menu, featuring $1 hot dogs, $1 soda and $1 beer. Coolers are not allowed in the grandstands. Listen to the announcers on 101.5 FM.
