Las Vegas' Inaugural Sprinkler Sprint 5k on August 10
A new start-up company, Downtown Runners, is set to launch with their first 5k aimed at Vegas locals with the goal to have fun, get fit and build community. The company begins with a water-filled road race, the Sprinkler Sprint, on August 10, 2013 at 7am at Las Vegas Academy in Downtown Las Vegas.

Founder, Tanya Carrier, is excited to create a race focused on fun. “The goal of Downtown Runners is to bring the local Vegas community together in a way that encourages absolute fun. These races are not timed and are walker-friendly.”

The Downtown Runners inaugural race, the Sprinkler Sprint, is happening in the dead heat of summer. The event promises to keep participants wet and cool as they traverse through water zones located on the 3.1 mile course. The excursions include a “Misty Tunnel,” a street-wide tunnel, located on Fremont Street, lined with industrial sized misting fans, sure to drop the blazing summer temperature at least 30 degrees.

Participants then make their way through the “Water Cannon Blast Zone” where freezing water will rain down from a huge cannon off the back of a tanker truck, sure to soak each runner as they pass. Next, the runners and walkers will enter the “Super Soaking Squirt Gun Zone” featuring a battle of water guns where participants will be drenched by volunteers in the best water-gun fight Downtown has ever seen.

The “Ice Pop Stop” is the final stop before the grand finale. Frozen ice pops will be handed out on the course for a refreshing treat, provided by the happiness inspired company, Zappos.com.

As participants head to the finish line, they should prepare for an end like no other. The finish line for the Sprinkler Sprint is a giant, inflatable Slip and Slide. Back at Las Vegas Academy, all finishers are invited to the stay for the Downtown Runners After Party. There will be music, provided by DJ Seany Mac, local food vendors and, of course, more water!

“We wanted to create a unique race experience with water excursions drenching each participant throughout the course. The Sprinkler Sprint will be an annual event, and we are excited for our launch year,” states Carrier. “We have great sponsors who are making this event bigger than we could have ever imagined, and it makes me happy that local businesses want to jump on board with us to build a beautiful community!” Carrier finishes.

Not into running? Not a problem. The volunteer program for Downtown Runners includes parties, contests and the best experience you could ask for. Where else can you volunteer to squirt people with water guns as part of your activities?

“It will take a team of people to put together this large event and we are looking to involve community groups to help us out.” states volunteer coordinator Heidi Dove. “We are proud to have the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada on board as volunteers for the Sprinkler Sprint.”

Downtown Runners continues to accept sponsorships through August 1st for the Sprinkler Sprint.
