About Leagues Cup

The 2019 or the first edition of the tournament will involve 4 clubs each from the 2 top-level soccer leagues from North America. There will be eight teams playing each other in a single elimination tournament, with its quarter-finals on July 23 and July 24. The quarter finals will be held in the MLS clubs’ stadiums. Talking further to the press, the commissioner said, “An intense rivalry is developing between Major League Soccer and Liga MX clubs, and Leagues Cup will provide thrilling competition while further elevating the profile of the game in North America. We have no doubt that the support for the historic, first-ever Leagues Cup final from the passionate soccer fans of Las Vegas and surrounding region will be tremendous, and the atmosphere at Sam Boyd Stadium will be electric.”

Enrique Bonilla, Executive President, LIGA MX talked about the Leagues Cup and shared how the event is a result of a rapidly growing and historic rivalry between two leagues in three countries. She emphasised the importance of Las Vegas to hold the final game of such a world-class event. She praised the Las Vegas city as being truly cosmopolitan in nature, which already hosts a great multitude of Mexican people during the Mexican Independence Day celebrations. LIGA MX is a global soccer league and the clubs which are a part of it don’t have fans in just one single country, but throughout the world, particularly amongst the Hispanic community of the US.
