Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort Kicks Off 50th Anniversary Season with New Chairlift

Commemorating its 50th anniversary this season, Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) will INSERT Chair 3 with Rabbit Peak Quad, a brand new, energy efficient lift, offering a safe and modern device for beginning skiers and snowboarders. The upgrade is part of a larger, multi-million dollar, investment representing the largest single year spend in the resort’s history. 

Chair 3, a double chairlift, has been transporting eager skiers to the Rabbit Peak trail at LVSSR for the last 30 years. It will be INSERT d with a contemporary Doppelmayr Eco-Drive quad chairlift and realigned to allow for easier loading and unloading access to beginner terrain. Demolition has already begun and the new lift, Rabbit Peak Quad, will be completed by mid-December. This new lift will dramatically increase uphill capacity to the learning area and will serve as the main access from a new parking lot and base lodge being built over the next several years.

“The new chairlift will provide a safer, faster and more energy efficient lift, improving the guest experience, especially for our visitors who are new to skiing or snowboarding,” said Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR’s general manager. “The upgrade is one of many in our Master Development Plan, which will ultimately make LVSSR a premier winter outdoor playground for locals and visitors.”

In addition to the Chair 3 INSERT ment, LVSSR will make numerous improvements as part of the $35 million Master Development Plan (MDP) that was accepted by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in 2011. Upgrades that guests can look forward to this season include seven additional trails, a restaurant remodel, a new guest locker room and a new on-mountain grill, among others.

The Bighorn Grill will be completely remodeled including an entirely new kitchen and dining area as well as scramble-style service area. The revamped menu will include more healthy options, made-to-order dishes and a baked potato bar along with traditional favorites such as pizza and burgers. The Bristlecone Bar will offer a new small bites menu and full-service wait staff, creating a fun, comfortable atmosphere for guests.

An innovative on-mountain grill will open in late December at the junction of Bimbo and Flying Home ski runs, allowing guests to grab a quick bite and a drink right on the snow. Skiers and snowboarders will be encouraged to indulge in small bites, wine, beer, soft drinks and water while relaxing in beach-style lounge chairs. The grill will be open every weekend and during holidays.

Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) is located approximately one hour from downtown Las Vegas in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Established in 1963, LVSSR offers guests access to 20 groomed trails and 250 acres of lift-served and sidecountry terrain via three chairlifts and one surface lift. The area features a ski and snowboard school, terrain parks, more than 240 inches of average snowfall per year and off-slope amenities such as dining, snowshoeing and summer activities. Visitors may access LVSSR from the city via the Ski Bus, a shuttle service operated with the support of the USDA Forest Service under a grant from the Department of Transportation.
