Las Vegas Wranglers Lasso 5-2 Win Over Idaho Steelheads

A night of first-time goal scoring lead the Las Vegas Wranglers to a 5-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads as the hockey team finished a three-game road series in Boise tonight.

It was a quiet first period until Idaho forward David Fredriksson collected the first goal on the night, and his first of the season, with forward Ondrej Roman on the assist at 12:25. Less than two minutes later, Wranglers forward Adam Huxley, who opened the season playing for the Steelheads, notched his own first goal on a power play. With assists from left wing Ned Lukacevic and forward Scott Campbell, the score knotted 1-1 through the first.

Steelheads forward Ian Lowe kicked off the second period with a goal at 5:36 and put Idaho in the lead 2-1 with help from forward Michael Neal. It was the last time the team would hold that lead, though, as the Wranglers tallied two goals in less than a minute to tie and take over scoring. Forward Judd Blackwater, with defenseman Channing Boe on the assist, recorded his sixth goal of the season at 13:50 in the period, and center Peter MacArthur recorded his first goal on a power play at 14:42. Blackwater and defenseman Mike Madill were given the assists, and Las Vegas went up 3-2 against the Steelheads. Forward Scott Campbell secured another goal with assists by Lukacevic and forward Ryan Weston to round out the second with a Wranglers 4-2 score advantage.

Idaho goaltender Jimmy Spratt and Las Vegas goaltender Joe Fallon, who have each played all three games in this series, held both teams scoreless until Spratt was pulled in the last minute to give the Steelheads a man advantage. Huxley picked up his second goal of the game in a literal last-second empty-net goal at 19:46 in the third, giving the Wranglers a 5-2 win as they head home to take on the Steelheads at Orleans Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7:05 p.m.
