NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Star Kasey Kahne to Compete in USAC Midget Races at LVMS Feb. 25

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Kasey Kahne will drive a USAC Midget at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The USAC/CRA Sprint Car and USAC National and Western Midget Series races at the half-mile dirt oval will kick off LVMS’s 2009 NASCAR Weekend.

The 28-year-old native of Enumclaw, Wash., is no stranger to the small, powerful cars. In 2000, he won the USAC Midget Series championship and was named Sprint Car Driver of the Year. He owns the USAC Midget driven by young talent Brad Sweet and also fields World of Outlaws Sprint Cars for Joey Saldana and Keith Dollansky.

“I love racing the Midget,” Kahne said. “It’s going to be a great way for us to kick off a great week of racing in Las Vegas. Brad has done a great job for us as well, so it will be fun to get out there and race with him. We’ve got two cars in the World of Outlaws racing the next night as well, so it should be a great couple of nights at the dirt track.”

Dollansky and Saldana will compete in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series’ return to the Dirt Track at LVMS on Thursday, Feb. 26.

As soon as Kahne exits his USAC Midget, his focus will switch to the March 1 Shelby 427. On the superspeedway, Kahne earned two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pole Awards here (2004 and 2007), set a new track record in qualifying and also won the 2006 Sam’s Town 300 for the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Fans may purchase a special discount combo ticket for $40 which will allow them to watch both the Feb. 25 USAC races and the Feb. 26 World of Outlaws event. The combo ticket, which saves fans $8, also includes a free pit pass to see Kahne and the other USAC drivers on Feb. 25. The special combo ticket must be purchased by Feb. 14.

Wednesday, Feb. 25 – USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, USAC Midgets (www.usacracing.com)
5 p.m. – Dirt Track gates open.
6 p.m. – USAC qualifying begins.
7 p.m. – USAC heat races begin.

Thursday, Feb. 26 – World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, Bullring Bombers
5 p.m. – Dirt Track gates open.
6 p.m. – World of Outlaws qualifying.
7 p.m. – World of Outlaws heat races.
9 p.m. – World of Outlaws features.
